Stoped at a red light and Bam. Pulled over to the side of the road and they took off.So the motor mount bracket is broke,a piece of the fin on the lower unit is broke off and there a piece on the lower section under the motor that broke off due to it being rammed into the bracket. It still starts up and runs fine. All of the controls still work.I was wondering if I would have to replace the lower unit case because of the small piece broken off of the fin. What do yall think. And where can I find a new bracket?

A good welder should be able to repair both problems.

I can't see motor mount too well.

But the fin, is repairable, from what I can tell.

No need for a new lower unit.

An aluminum weld unlike steel , is generally weaker then the parent material.

For the motor mount , there is an aluminum brazing rod , that is very strong.

I've used them , and they get the job done.

a good welder can fix that . you may have to take the motor off the boat to do a good job . as faras the finn you can find a old foot of most any kind that is busted and cut a pice bigger than that part that is broken off and cut the hole to match and weld it in .

A reverse impact on a outboard engine is bad new's. What your probably not see'ing is a bent exhaust housing, and tower shaft. Have you checked the boat's transom? It takes a lot of force to snap a transom bracket like that.

Did you get their license plate number and call the police? Around here, hit and run is a very serious offense.
