ok, i'll do my best to describe what i dont have a pic of...

what i want to know is what is the small(maybe 1/4") hose that is coming off the top of the engine with a screw in it to plug it?? this hose and fitting is on top right over the fuse panel on my 99 115 Ficht.

we fixed a problem yesterday and figured we take her out for a test ride. everything was fine and i had to go thru a long no wake zone. right near the end my motor started coming up by itself! freaked me out! as the motor tilted all the way up i noticed water running out of the hole where the fuel and wires go from the boat to the motor...not good.

i got it home finally only to discover this hose was not on the fitting and all my electrical hookups are wet. at the time i took it out of the water the tilt trim was still trying to go up or down on its own and no gauges worked. anyone know if theres a fuse for the gauge panel?? if it aint one thing its a dag dem nother!! sorry for the long post but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the pee hose that somebody chopped short and stuck a screw in. Maybe you should take it to an Evinrude dealer to see wnat else has been "modified". I'm assuming water got into the trim relays. The connections are supposed to be water tight. Sounds like somebody without much knowledge about them got their hands on it and did more harm than good. :(

That motor is just like men....

Men drink water....and their pee hose sends it out.

That motor is just like men....

Men aim their pee hose where they want it to go.

Your motors pee hose discharge should be attached to a nipple sending it outside the motor housing.

Joking aside, the hose is to route a small stream of water out the side of the lower engine pan. It's real name is overboard indicator, and is to give the boat operator a visible indication of whether the water pump is working or not.

If it's not doing that, it's been disconnected from the appropiate nozzle.

thanks for the replies so far...ok dumb question...cant you tell the water pump is working by looking at the stream coming out the back of the motor??

will it hurt anything by it being plugged? its on the right nozzle i think, but its just plugged. i'll try and get a pic tomorrow of it.

im having problems now with the starter not engauging everytime i start it and im having the "feels like i hit something" jerk, bump feeling around 4000 and up. theres not telling what is corroded in that fuse panel that i cant see.
