Someone turned me in (updated)

I have several vehicles on my property. Apparently someone complained about the amount that I have. Codes and Permits of my township sent me a nasty gram. They have given me 5 days from the time of inspection to get things in order. Two of those days, the nasty gram was in the mail. Our local mail now travels to another town about 50 miles away to only return the next day. (that is another matter).

They state that I must "Please remove junk unlicensed vehicle or cover to the ground with a cover". That was their exact wording and punctuation. I'm trying to figure this one out. I have a bucket truck, Ford Explorer, company van, 27' Bayliner, 24' Reinell, 72 Bradley GT, 89 VIP Vision boat and my brothers Dwarf race car. His race car is sitting in the driveway with a For Sale sign on it.

All the boats are not presently registered except their trailers. The Bradley hasn't been registered since 2000 and is not visable. The only thing that I can think of that caused the complaint is the Dwarf car since it cannot be licensed for the street. (Oh boy that would be fun to drive on the road if it was).

The 24' Reinell is a basket case that I have been sweating over for the last several weeks. The motor is out and was sitting in front of my garage door with a few other things that I have temporaily set there. I guess it was enough for someone to think it was an eyesore.

I called the Codes division yesterday at 3 pm asking if I could get some specifics on what the problem is or was. I got no response at all. Now when it is Monday, my 5 days are up and none of my questions are answered.

I will conform to there requests, but how come I can't put a non-registerable vehicle up for sale in my drive? I hate this stuff because now, I know that I will be picked on for years to come.

My Bayliner is not presently registered but the trailer has up to date tags on it. I'm going today to register it which stinks, since I had not planned on launching it this year. So I will be giving up one of the 3 years of the registry. This is one of the questions that I needed answered.

The Bradley which I don't think the inspector had even seen is going into the garage. I had plans on getting it in there anyway. This just gave me the motivation to git-r-done.

Thinking about telling the inspector when he comes out that I plan to paint my house. I'll ask him if he thinks bright pink would look good. It might distract busy bodies from looking at all the vehicles I have.

Pink is never a good house colour unless you add yellow polka-dots! :D

Nope, I don't have nothing in my front yard or backyard except boats. However I got a nice pink toilet that would make a nice planter that would match the house. I wonder if Lowes could match the color for me?

If the bucket truck is registered, start parking it in front of your neighbors house. Just move it six feet every 72 hours.

I wouldn't be so sure someone "turned you in". From the sound of it you've done just fine drawing attention to yourself. If you didn't have quite so much "stuff" in the yard you may have never drawn complaints from your neighbors or the attention of the code inspector.

All things in moderation?

Naw, the only way the inspector gets involved is if a complaint is made by someone. (their to lazy to do it themselves) It states that in the letter I received. BTW, nothing was parked on my front yard. That is an obvious attention grabber and a violation here. All vehicles must be parked on a solid surface or gravel. (which they are except the VIP boat and it is out of site hidden by landscaping)

Just got the Dwarf car out. My brother just left with it. Now to play hop scotch on moving the other stuff around. All will be okay by Monday,,,,,,,I hope :D

What Terry said. Around here, they go on the warpath whenever they need funding, and about 3 months before a county auction.
These "sorties" are real money makers for the county, because people have that mistaken idea here also, that their private property is their private property.
I just feel bad for those fools who decided to live in Cape Coral (a city about 12 miles away), they do not allow boats pickups, or trucks of any kind in the driveway or yard.
Sieg hiel, y'all.

I don't believe they can control how many REGISTERED vehicles you have in your yard. In the county I live in, they have an ordinance stating you can have only 2 UN-REGISTERED vehicles VISIBLE.
If you live in a sub division or something like that, there may be an ordinance about total vehicles allowed outside.

WN, unfortunately, local laws can be draconian. Couple that with some "homeowner's assosciation" stipulations, and you can lose the right to have an American flag in your yard. It all depends upon where you decide to live. One thing is for certain: You will never find ol 12Footer living in a "comunity" like that. But they exist and are numerous here in Florida.

I live out in the country and they "can" make you pay taxes on ever vehicle you have, running or not.
Either that or a 8' high fence around them all.

Don't ask.

Yep, If I don't make sure everything is taken care of, I'm looking at a $1000 fine, 6 months in jail, plus the cost of having the stuff removed.

I know I will never live where it is said what I can have and can't have for the sake of the pleasure of the eye. Damn rubber neckers anyway, they should be watching the road :D

Re: Someone turned me in (aaaargh)

I have had these same problems in two different towns. Now I live in the sticks and I can have as many boats, trucks and bathtubs in my yard and driveway as I want.

If the bucket truck is registered, start parking it in front of your neighbors house. Just move it six feet every 72 hours.

Now you're talkin'!
