Originally founded in 1565, St. Augustine is nation's oldest permanently occupied city. It has been under three different governments Spain 1565-1763 and 1784-1821, Britain 1763-1784, & the U.S. 1821-present. Was a part of the Confederacy 1861-1862. Tons of history here & a lot of cool stuff to see.
Below are a few shots I took yesterday from the Mantanzas River/Intercoastal. One is of Castillo de San Marcos built in 1695. The Bridge Of Lions, which is being restored, was built in 1927. Once completed the temp bridge behind it will be dismantled & taken out to sea to create an artificial reef.
