I got home from boating last weekend and noticed that the right rear tail light on my boat trailer was messed up bad. The light and gasket was missing, the plastic connector was broken, and the actual metal was busted and broken.:confused:

I have no clue how this happened and I do not drink and drive period. I am pretty good with trailers too. It is a mystery to me but I am guessing it was my fault somehow somewhere.

I need some help to decide what to do, how to get it done, and where to get the replacement parts.

It is the matching trailer to my 1999 Procraft Combo17 with Mercury 125.

Help me out here guys, I don't even know if the trailer is painted aluminum or painted steel.

Help a brother out, I need to get street legal asap and need to know the most efficient and effective steps to getting back on track?

Geo

Your trailer is steel. You can tell by the rust, as aluminum doesn't rust. Any welder should be able to fix the cracked steel, and you can get one of those lights at any trailer parts place, or Cabela's, BPS etc. They are a fairly common design.

Might have been broken when you got it...sure did rust quick. If you don't know a welder, JB Weld works great. iboats has your light.

No mystery, Geo. Happens in ramp parking lots all the time. Mostly clumsy trailer operation, but sometimes vandalism.

That is what you need.

You may have run over a piece of tire tread on the road and it got kicked up hard enough to wipe out your light.

I appreciate the effort, at least you got me going in the right direction, I just did a copy and paste from the address bar to the body of my post and the link just showed up. Not sure what was going on there, maybe a internet ghost...

Thanks everyone :)

Thanks for helping me get straightened out.

Is this what I am needing?

Those are kits. Parts for replacing broken lens, bulb and gasket. Try this and if you don't already have LED lights, change out both (left and right).

Also, you'll need to take trailer to a weld shop and have them weld your cracks. I don't think JB Weld will hold from road vibrations.

I don't think you hit anything. If you hit something good enough to dislodge the light, and crack the metal in two places, the metal below the light where the reflector is would be bent at least some.
I think the cracks developed from vibrations and too much heat in the original weld. Then when the second crack devleoped, the bracket opened up around the light enough that it fell out.
Then the light flapped around in the highway speed winds until the plug could not hang on to it anymore.
You might want to get your wheels balanced.

Re: Something Happened - A Mystery

I've lost 3 trailer lights over the years in launch ramp parking lots. It happens and I keep telling myself the person who did it didn't realize it or they would have left a note, although I'm also expecting my taxes to go down and gas to return to $1.50 per gallon.

It looks like an easy fix, where are you located? Welded up it should be stronger than new.
