I guess that i should mention that he just got a new $250 21 speed bike. He also already has the psp and the older xbox. We originally got him the 360 to finish the halo trilogy. Hes completed 1 and 2.

By no means is he deprived of toys. I just want him to start working for goals in his life and i think now is a good time to start. Who knows at Xmas if he has not come up with the full amount i may just kick in some.He just battled his mother to do the dishes. Cool

Great plan, all children need to learn the value of hard work and rewards. That said, remember being 12?? A month is like a year long at that age. The 4 months between now and Christmas sounds like a reasonable time span to let him earn towards the purchase. And kicking in at Christmas is an outstanding idea, provided he continues to work towards his goal in the interim.

i still got my gameboy color and gamecube i got a 360 few months ago and got a ps2 maybe in 4-5 grade

An allowance with household chores being mandatory was our choice. But they get extra money for grades and larger projects around the house. Plus during the summer they can go to work with me and earn a little extra. We have an xbox 360 and have had no problems at almost a year. It's up off the ground fairly protected and off when not in use also it's not on it's side with lots of breathing room. Not sure if any of those things have made a difference though. But my sons friend leaves his on the floor and forgets to turn it off and he's had to replace it twice. If your never planning on having it online than I would say ps3 more dependable so I've heard at least. But most kids use it to socialize with friends on line so 360 is better.

Playing online with a ps3 is free, playing online with an xbox there is a monthly charge. The postrs are correct about the not if the 360 will fail its when. BUT Micro$oft has done something not many people know bout, WHEN you get the 3 red lights micro$soft has extended the warranty to 3 years for this problem and give you a refurbished one. Then you get people like me who buy the ones with the 3 red lights (or others with issues) and fix them lol

Be aware that the latest cheap PS3 that just came out won't play PS2 games.

Print up some flyers and take them around, odd jobs lawns mowed etc.
Did it when I was a kid and made decent money, never got an allowance, I thought my freinds who did were spoiled . I had my chores too.

When I was 14 I got work on a farm harvesting rhubarb,
fast work and good money for a couple of weeks.

That was it, I was hooked, by 15 I dropped out of school ,
I apprenticed to be a butcher but didn't like it ,
by 17 I was apprenticed for 5 yrs to a Parisien pastry chef.
Worked the first 6 months washing dishes for free(he paid my parents).
By 29 I was in business.
4 businesses later , glad my parents didn't give me any material wants.
Except a fishing rod and bicycle.
