Congratulations '57Lapline. That's how most of us started out too. I owned a 1972 Evinrude 35hp which was pretty similar to your motor. Over the years I slowly saved up money to trade up in boat size as my needs increased, but enjoy your boat. It will do most of what you need for years to come. Watch the second Grumpy Old Men a few times and you want have a need to upgrade boats. Just get a six pack of Schmidts and go looking for Catfish Hunter.

I would go for 36lbs of thrust. I think 30 would be just a touch too small.

Hey guys I haven't updated this thread in awhile but while I've been away my 25 hp Johnson took a poop do I replaced it with a nice little 6 hp evinrude that gets the job done. I also ended up painting the boat back to its original color. I found some nice rust oleum aluminum stuff that was real nice for the bottom and the rails. I also got a trailer hitch on my car which pulls this thing with ease so I'm very happy with how my Lund is set up now and its been darn good for some fishing. Here's some pics:

Gettin some primer on it

Congratulations '57Lapline. I have a 14' tinny with a 34# trolling motor. Works great unless there is a lot of wind. Still OK but a 40# thrust would be perfect. Have a great time and catch a lot of fish:)
