Re: Sorry cut and runners, the UN...

Who's been in charge of this country for the last bunch of years? The right has been running this war. You want to not put enough people on the ground? OK. How did that work for you? You don't want to give them equipment? Fine, leave it up to the families to send body armor and gps equipment. Let the troops scrounge sheets of steel from the dump to protect their humvees.
I just read the site Parrot Head posted. That says it better than I can. The right is shortchanging the troops while stuffing the pockets of Haliburton, and at the same time cuts their own taxes. You not only send the poor off to fight your unnecessary war, you make them pay for it while you collect vast war profits.
Meanwhile, where's Osama?

Can't articulate a rational position? Run out the BS flag, or start singing the kool-aid song. Do you know what the troops are asking for in "care packages" from home? FRS radios...so they can communicate with each other in firefights. And body armor. And steel plate for their hummers.

Not sure what flavor the Kool-aid is but the link was to Army-times and it deals with how the service men and women were having their pay rates reduced and death benefits chopped. The situation of inadequate equipment and material delivery problems was well established by all the major news groups.

Here is some of the text from the link:
Similarly, the administration announced that on Oct. 1 it wants to roll back recent modest increases in monthly imminent-danger pay (from $225 to $150) and family-separation allowance (from $250 to $100) for troops getting shot at in combat zones.

Not sure how this rides with with ya'll but I would have no problem having a surcharge to my taxes to help our troops financially for their service to us.

We elected our leadership, our leadership deemed this operation vital to out interests. I am not comfortable putting this burden on our military and then reducing their income and benefits and support.

Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Texas, who notes that the House passed a resolution in March pledging “unequivocal support” to service members and their families, puts it this way: “American military men and women don’t deserve to be saluted with our words and insulted by our actions.”

Amen to Parrot heads post. Samsam Hello, anyone home? Who voted for the war? Who? Check the record. But you got it all in there, Haliburton, Hate for your president, and a misrepresentation of the rank and file military credentials. Higher than average income background and education levels. But hey, Al Sharpton is always on your side of the Tawana Brawley issue.

Support the troops. Please. They will find Osama or maybe his spider hole is better hid than Sadam's. Our TROOPS will find him. Support them in their mission.

Re: Sorry cut and runners, the UN...

Pointer,

Thanks for the vote of confidence but our leadership, which we voted in, pushed for this war. By our leadership I mean the president and his administration. As I recall it was a time of a feeling of unity and I think that our President took advantage of this and pushed for this war.

There was not the planning needed for how to deal with the cessations of hostilities and how to govern and administer a country that suddenly finds itself without leadership.

Factually I can find nothing amiss in samsam's first paragraph.

Where I would differ in the above is putting the blame at the right's doorstep. Our leadership was responsible, not any one wing of party affiliation.

What torques me off is that it seems the President and his administration was actively pursuing reductions in the pay and benefits of our service members is order to finance the tax cuts they had sponsored.

Oh, can you guess what the troops want now from home?

Silly String! The party favor toy from the '80's. Comes in an aerosol can.

Can you figure out why?!?!?!?

I'm sorry, but I can't believe that any administration would try to cut the pay and or benifits of the military. If this was so, the media would be all over it. It would be on the front page of the NY Times for months. Why haven't we heard of this? If they can get national security information, they could get this information.

I'll let you do some of the leg work on this but basically do a "google" search using the "news" tab and see what you get.

Back in '03-'04 the Administration, while increasing funding in some areas of military spending, was coercing the Pentagon to tighten the belt where it could. When it became public that troops "combat pay and "family separation" allowance were going to be cut as well as a cap on lower ranks pay raise the howl that ensued forces the administration to back peddle.

It never got a huge run in the national news due to other things having a lot more glamor. If the administration had not backed off it would have been a major news item. That is kind of the purpose of Army Times.....and advocate for the service folk.

This is where he falls on his face. Congress holds the power of the purse and the left has said nothing to this effect. Anyone ever hear of the loyal opposition? The usual sound bite Haliburton hate thread is tiresome. Second tax cuts have bolstered this economy dispite Kerry's drivel about the worst economy in 50 years. All have benefitted from this prosperity, and to indicate that all have not benefitted or that tax cuts were for some secret handshake group is asinine and irresponsible. This is nothing more that class envy and class warfare. Third Check the Heritage Foundation as they did a comprehensive study of the demographics that make up the American military, and it is not as portrayed by Samsam or Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. And finally how committed or sincere is his desire to find Osama. He has ripped the party in power, and there are many many reasons and rational you could use to make that arguement, but instead we get soundbite leftwing tripe. There is plenty of meat on that bone. But to spew this election stunt BS is intellectually weak. I haven't yet heard any plan from the left on how to kill or arrest Osama. Our troops are chasing Osama, not our president. His attempted slight at the president is a contemptable slap at our troops.

The troops don't go anywhere without orders and funding from Congress and the President. In effect, the troops aren't chasing Osama, the President is. Absolutely no one on earth thinks Osama was/is in Iraq, nor was Al-Queda or terrorism until the inept destruction of the country converted it into a vast school of terrorism, complete with weapons. Not only are terrorists schooled in the art of guerrilla/terrorist tactics, new methods are developed daily, and their political power and corrupt religion grows and influences more and more of the world. For every terrorist we kill, dozens of innocents are killed. For every innocent we kill, more terrorists are born.
The administration lied/misrepresented/didn't understand the facts it gave to Congress, the American people and the U.N. as the reason for the invasion and overthrow of Iraq. The same pattern has persisted through the conduct of the war right up to the present and the administration has no plan what to do but stay the course and accuse anyone with any notion to get out as an unpatriotic cut and runner.
In Afghanistan, not much more than control of some major cities was accomplished before the shift to Iraq. Most of the country was left in control of local warlords. They have won the hearts and minds of the people by providing what little infrastructure mudhut, medieval minded people will accept and be gratefull for. Just enough schooling by Taliban Mullahs for obedient males to read the Koran. Some minimal health care. Food. Now we have the Taliban/warlords retaking the country, fueled by the profits of more opium production than was ever achieved before the U.S. arrived.
So I am tiresome, assinine, and irresponsible. A spewer of tripe, intellectually weak bullshit who has fallen on my face. I guess if you take into consideration the opinions of a big chunk of America and a majority of the rest of the world, W and I and the right have a lot in common.

Re: Sorry cut and runners, the UN...

nice thing about it is the current admin has just developed a way to blame the Iraqis for the invasion, the total fubar of it and the end result. Bush comes out smelling like a rose.
but we will pay on it another 20 years .
but as long as we can blame the iraqis for the failure its cool.
