Sounds Like Blower Bearing Going out

I recentely purchased a 04 Select 2000 with a 5.0 MPI, and this is my first boat as you will soon learn.

It sounds like a bearing in the blower moter is going out because it has makes a strange noise sometimes.

I know this sounds stupid, but i am new to this. How many blowers does a boat have (my guess is only one). Is this a part I can by aftermarket, or do you suggest going to Sea Ray to get one?

I noticed there was a couple differnt types:

Flangemount, inline, and flexmount

I guess it depends on my setup.

The blower might not be bad. Leaves and stuff gets into the hose, and will make that funny sound when they hit the blower blades. Unhook the hose to the blower and check it.​

I have in-line one that screams like a she-devil sometimes (yes I know what that sounds like . . . ) Definitely sounds like a bearing to me too. I'm gonna get accused here of trying to blow up my boat, but I just squirt some WD into the outlet side (outboard vent) and let it run down there for a minute or so and then I flip it on and the noise usually clears up quickly. Any latent fumes from the WD (or whatever you use) go right back out with the air that the blower is pushing out of the boat, so I see very little problem with it and it works for while that way. I may get half a season before it starts screaming again. Come to think of it, I think she needs another injection . . .

When your running a scow like QC's the WD trick is fine for a temp fix...............but I'd be looking to replace it before it fails completely...........................................................................FWIW I've known QC to roast marshmallows over an open fire from his carb..... ................now if I could just find the post by QC about catchong his carb on fire.............. this post would make sense...

That "carb" was MPI thank you very much. I don't do anything half arse, even when I attempted to burn her to the waterline. Shoot, anybody could set a carbed boat on fire . . . Scow? Just wait 'til I tell her . . .

Oh, oops, wrong one . . . that was my scow . . .

Oh, and remember, I am not a member of the "run the blower because I like to hear the stupid thing sucking air out of a compartment that is sucking a whole lot of air in while I am moving more than 5 MPH" club. And I carry a spare, thank you very much, in case I feel like joining the club, so there . . .

QC, when i had the Aquatron, i did the same thing. douse it in wd40 and keep going.
