I have a Minnkota 46 lb thrust motor on a mini-bass boat. Though that is plenty of power, max speed is about 5 miles per hour with the standard weedless wedge propeller. I have been looking around to no avail. Does anyone out there know of a propeller that would fit this electric motor and give greater speed? It has a 3/8" shaft, about 1" long between the cross pin and the threaded part of the shaft. Or is there a 3/8" shaft propeller that could be modified? The Minnkota propeller has a 3.5" round body, and overall is about 2.25" thick, with total (fins) diameter of about 11".

Dang Chuck, I don' know. That's right up there with souping up an electric leaf blower. I guess, if ya got plenty of power, you could take the prop to a prop shop and have more pitch put in but get ready for some real serious ribbin'.

c/6

Hooty

Chuck, trollers are not designed for speed.
They are built for quick acceleration and power.
Kind of like a prop for hole shot and skiing.
It will be difficult to find props for other uses.
You might try adapting a prop from a bigger motor
But I have a feeling it will top out very close to where you are.
By the way at 5 mph you are close to the max
on a purpose designed electric boat.
Electric boats can be built to go faster but at
a sacrifice of cruise range. And expense.
Try this site.www.econogics.com/ev/evboats
Lots of electric boat stuff.Including an electric outboard.
Interesting.

Thanks, all, for the replies.
Hooty - Yeah, but you should see MY electric leaf blower!
Boatist - Thanks for the effort, but I'd already tried all those before posting here.
steelespike - thanks for the link, looks interesting! I'll check it all out...but as you say likely to be a bit on the expensive side for puttering around on "electric motor only" fishing lakes. I'm not looking to pull a skier, just goose the speed by maybe double.

Chuck your sure not likely to double your speed
You might try the motor on a nice long (16 ft or more)slim boat like a canoe or some sort of pulling boat (used for rowing.)Youll
see a very nice old style fantail launch on
the electric site I think it is 19 ft and it reaches its designed hull speed 4-5 mph on only 1/2 hp.
Of course your problem is the same as it was, your motor isnt designed for speed. But with the right hull you can get the most out of it.
