In the market for a replacement starter for my 470 with a build in solenoid. I've checked armatureserviceco.com and somethingreman.com as referenced in earlier posts--doesn't seem like they're available any more. Anyone have any idea of where to get one? Do these cross-reference with other applications, or is the 470 starter unique?

Mike,
I had mine rebuilt, have you tried checking out the rebuild shops in your area?

Looks like the pmgr reduction starter is nla for the 470. rebuild is about the same price as new, so I just ordered a new direct drive style.

Re: Source for a PMGR starter/470?

Just a quick update. Put in the new starter last week. First time I turned it over it spun so fast (but didn't catch) that I thought I might have forgotten to replace the plugs. This thing must have been on its last legs since I've owned the boat. Anyway, fired up on muffs and ran super smooth (for a 470...) after that. So, we now have new valve spring, new starter, new/rebuilt carb, newly machined exhaust manifold surface, new plugs/wires (I'm impressed by the Mallory wires btw) over the winter. Gonna put it in tomorrow and see if the driveability issues from last fall are cured...
