Hi guys,I am looking to replace my cockpit carpeting and cant seem to be able to find a good source. Most seem to have carpet that they recommend to be glued down or they have a backing that is too stiff. What I have is snapped down and has a flexible soft black rubber backing.Anyone know where I can get this factory type of carpeting.Regal was not able to help me.Charlie

I'd probably try a large carpet outlet. If there is something made then they usually have a small sample and can order in whatever you want.

Buy outdoor or pool PLUSH CUT, (fish hooks), carpet in any carpet place. Take the original snapout to a marine upholster or 2, for pricing, go to the better one and ask him to do the replacement. He has the stainless snaps.

I bought our cockpit carpet from Lowes. It was their ribbed "outdoor" carpet with a rubber backing. Works very well for us and is holding up just fine. No need to bind the edges, just trim to fit.

Chaparrel will sell me any thing. If I pay for it. Great boat company.

Hey Charlie,I've been looking to replace the snap out in my cockpit. The Carpet is fine, but I don't like the heavy rubber backing.Feels nice to walk on, but soaks up water, and does'nt alow air to circulate. Never dries.I'm going to to get some good quality indoor out door carpet, and bring it to a clasic car restorer. for 120$ I will have a new cockpit carpet.

Jim

Lowes has a selection of outdoor carpeting. Mildew resistant, ultra-violet resistant. Very reasonably priced. Very easy to work with.

And, because you are not purchasing with the "marine" label from a "marine" store, you will save a bundle.

I replaced the carpet in my old boat with carpet from Lowe's. It was the same as what they had at Boater's World only it cost a fraction of their charge. The only problem I had was that Lowe's didn't stock all the colors.

Crazy,

I spent weeks and few posts trying to locate a source as you are...My experience was that if want to buy Marine grade carpet, you going to end up paying a lot of $$$ and getting something with a color well suited to being someplace other than on a boat...I picked up a commerical Burbur carpet from Lowes and painted the back w/ a rubber coating from ACE Hardware designed for adding rubberized handles to tools...Have the edges bound before you apply the coating...After one year, it still look great. Cost for a 26 ftr was about 100 bucks.

Seahag...

Thanks guys.I will have to take a look to see what lowes has to offer.Local carpet stores were not too interested when they asked how much I needed. It does not take too much to cover a cockpit.Charlie

Home Depot has a good selection, get as much as you want and they will do the major cuts for you, I had them cut some cheap stuff into strips for my bunks.

Jim

Yes I did Ralph. The ones I was able to find only carried a carpet that they recommended for glue down purpose only. They were really affordable too.I was going to give it a try anyway for only $75 with shipping.I can remember the last time something for my boat only cost $75.Charlie
