Source for Trailer Grease Seals?

Hello...

I'm rebuilding, and I mean rebuilding, an old trailer for an old aluminum boat that I am also restoring. I thought I was going to be able to finish the trailer, but I found that the grease seals are worn out.

I've tried four Googled up potential sources on the web with negative responses from three and no response from one. The part number is an SKF/CR (Chicago Rawhide of all companies) 16201 Lds & Small Bore Seal (description according to the spec sheet I found on the SKF site).

Anyone know of a likely source I could try to buy a couple? The dimensions are 1.625 shaft, 2.441 bore, 2.445 OD, 0.313 width, 0.069 weight. The upc is 00085311016865.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You may try trailerpartssuperstore.com.
If you have a Northern Tool in your area they usually can match up seals and bearings.
Those sizes sound larger than most trailer seals.

Welcome to Iboats too!!:D

Thanks. That was one source I Googled up and I think the one I haven't heard from yet. Good suggestion on Northern -- I'll try that.

Nice boat you have there.

also try NAPA auto parts, they have a huge choice, also outboard, and inboard parts.

Just look up "bearing" in your local yellow pages. Then take the old seal to the bearing supplier and they will be able to match it up.

Any parts counter guy that has worked more than six months at NAPA should be able to match the bearing and seal. The last place I would go for those parts would be a marine dealer. Even the farm stores now carry a fair amount of trailer parts.

Hello all,

Wow! This is a great group. Thanks for all the suggestions. It looks like the Internet source will be the easiest to do. I'll try the others if that falls through.

Thanks again!

Look in your local phone book for an industrial bearing and drive supplier, they usually will stock seals and bearings simply by ID, OD, and width. The same for seals.
My second choice would be NAPA auto parts.

Try Kaman Bearings. Excellent source for odd-ball bearings / seals.
If there isn't a branch near you;

www.kamandirect.com

I used to buy all my bearings and seals at Kaman for many years. If you go there now they will absolutely blow your socks off with their sky high price. $7 for a stupid axle seal of common type and they have to order it on top of it all. Best of all you get to pay for shipping and wait for it to come in. No thanks Kaman. I can do that on my computer and get it quicker or just go to Napa, Advance, or Auto Zone and get them for $5 and some change. I never could see any difference in quality between any of them other than single and double lip seals.

If you can't find them from all of the previous posts try a company called Bearing Headquarters. I briefly looked at their site and saw CR among many other brands. I have a large catalog at work that I may be able to cross reference for you although it is probably 20 years old. Give Bearing Headquarters a try and if you get stuck send me a message and I will try to cross reference it for you.
