Hi Duane,
I'm John, When do you want to go, I'm all for it. Tough this week. How about crossing early Sunday? I need to be back on Oct 4th.
My Boat's a 23 ft Dorsett Cabin Cruiser, not very fast. A buddy Boat's a good idea, it'll take me 1 1/2 to 2 hours to cross. The pictures are of Me & the Boat and last June at Puget Sound with Mt Rainier in the backgroung.
Was at Avalon on an overnighter in July. The Island is still there. Was foggy & almost bumped into the Island before I saw it.
Seriously, I'm not much of a fisherman but any excuse to go to the Island is a good one. It's been a while since I've been to Two Harbors at the Isthmus, but I think it has a "String Line", I know we could pickup a couple of moorings and there are also several anchorages. Suggest you look at the satelite view on Map Quest.
If you haven't gone before, you want to avoid the afternoon chop in the channel. Normally I'd get a slip at Alamitos the night before & leave about 6 or 7 AM. However, I have a dinner on Saturday so if we go Sunday I'd like to launch at San Pedro about 8 AM. Returning to the Mainland about 7 or 8 AM Tuesday. Don't go at all if a storm is forcast.
Getting to shore is either a Shore Boat or Dinghy, no slips anywhere. I have an inflatable with a small electric outboard that I carry.

Hey John & Duane

This weekend is the 22nd annual Buccaneer Days event at the Isthmus @ 2 Harbors so I seriously doubt you would be able to get on the string line until maybe Sunday. I made my reservations a couple of weeks ago at least and barely made it.
If you do come over, definitely look for the 'Isle Doer' 25' Catalina or the "Isle Doer Again' 24' Bayliner cuddy with flybridge and say arrrr!

More info on the event HERE

Hi again Duane,
They removed your phone number. We'll have to figure out how to send a private message.
Re Marina Del Rey. You're right it's the closest launch ramp, however it's considerably further on the water. Any savings in parking cost can be eaten up by the extra gas & then there's the cruising time in route. If there is any delay in starting to cross, either going or coming back, the chop can make a pleasant crossing miserable.
I've used the "South Shore Launch Ramp",590 Queensway Drive, Long Beach. It's a good ramp, parking is a little more, $10.00/day, it's distance, to the Island, is in that old song "26 miles across the sea, Santa Catalina is waiting for me".
Is arriving at a Launch ramp we decide on, at 7 AM Sunday OK with you?

Yeah, I'm sorry if I slowed you guys up. Trust me, Google usually has these threads well connected in less than a few mins. Phone number would've been at everyone's finger tips

Hi Duane,
I checked my computers Weather Channel, for the forecast at Avalon. They are predicting good weather for this weekend.
10% chance of rain today & tomorrow, then 0% Friday thru Sunday, 10% Monday, 0% Tuesday.
I'll phone you about 9 AM,
John
