Re: Spanking Ban Law Proposed in California
Whats even more fun now is video cell phones and cameras everywhere, so when someone decides they need to "discipline" their kid in public, there is three people there to film it.
I am not against spanking, there is a place for it. More to get the childs attention, get them out of the behavior loop they are stuck in. Then you can use a more contructive way to achieve behavior modification. Just spanking and sending them on their way does nothing. I will say my butt got kicked a few times by my ma, but it was rare, and I never feared that as punishment. She had far worse means of punishment than physical force she could use. For me, it was time and freedom. You take away the fun, that is far worse than 3 seconds of pain.
Spanking alone without further behavior modificaiton IS lazy parenting. Spanking is just one tool in a large toolbox. I never spanked my daughter, I figured out other means of punishment.
I have witnessed a lot of people using the wrong tool for the job. Spanking for something that was not even an offense, and trying to reason with a young child when clearly a swat to the arse would be more productive. A lot of people out there have kids, doesn't mean they know how to be parents...
