Spark plug gap + sheer pin

I've got a 1984 Merc 7.5 hp. I'm just getting into the boating world so I'm quite the novice. My first question is What's the proper spark plug gap? My second question is Is there a sheer pin with this motor? I've heard people talking about it. I'm going to a lake that has a lot of rocks so I'm worried about my prop. Thanks

.040 plug gap if its not a polar gap plug and there is no shear pin
