1980 johnson 35hp. The motor runs pretty damm good as long as you stay on it. If i let it idle for a while a few times it will start to bog down off the line and if I keep it at wot for a while it clears up and runs great and then I could go back to letting it idle again.

I was thinking I am to rich but anybody know what the float bowl height should be? Choke is good. Can always work on the idle mixture but there is a special tool to set float height that I cant get my hands on.

Death rattle on the bottom one. Something terrible is going on in there. My first thought is water getting into cylinder. Second thought is a melting piston.

Can you be more specific when you say death rattle?

Is the head gasket the only gasket that would let water into the cylinder?

Post #2 says ---Expensive.------Remove the cylinder head.----You will likely find scored cylinder and motor needs to be rebuilt !

Don't take the word rattle literally. I simply meant that it is about to self destruct, die, blow up, or however you want to word it.
