Hello all, I have a 1988 Force 125 (insert comment here) I like my engine....
Except, today I was checking the spark and when the engine turned over as I was holding the plug to the block I got a nice jolt. I've taken it out 3 times this season, and it's been running different each time. This last time I could swear it is missing. I haven't resorted to thinking it the compression. Here's the problems I'm having........ last time I was out, almost every time after starting it I would put it in gear it would die, also when I was at mid thrt. it would viberate. Does any one have any suggestions? Given the electric is off. Plugs look good. And it starts strong and fast.
Thanks!

Re: spark plug rubber boot shocking me

I put some NGK Spark Plug Boots on mine, so I could fix this problem in the past. These NGK boots are much nicer than the Quicksilver ones you get for this motor. Here is one that I found Searching Google http://www.mfgsupply.com/m/c/24-9370.html?id=jm45W2rh

I got mine from a Motorcycle Dealer around town. You may try that.

Thanks,
Bryan

Thanks for the reply I neglected to mention. Only one of the plugs shocked me through the boot. With the electric getting past the boot could this cause the problem with the engine missing and running bad at mid throttle?

I would say that it could. On mine when I had the problem with a boot shocking me, it was missing some here and there, never Perfectly Smooth. Now its smooth as silk, with the new NGK boots and the NGK BUHW plugs in the Force 125.

Hope it helps.

Bryan

Re: spark plug rubber boot shocking me

Does anyone know of a link where I can buy plug wires for a 88 Force 125?
Also What are those little blue boxes that the plug wire goes to? And where can I find them also?

Thanks!

Re: spark plug rubber boot shocking me

ok I did a compression test, and here are the results

120 lb on 1
125 lb on 2
120 lb on 3
120 lb on 4

So now i know it's not the compression, what should I do next?

Re: spark plug rubber boot shocking me

I would just replace the boots with some NGK ones, cut the wire back just enough to put the new boots on.

No reason to replace the blue boxes unless you are not having spark, they are also about $75+ a piece. I would replace all 4 boots with new NGK ones from a Motorcycle dealer.

Then Put in NGK BUHW Spark Plugs. Then see how it runs.

Thanks,
Bryan
