Spark Plug Wire Replacing

I have a 1971 40HP Merc. 400, the plug wires are cracked, and can see them arcing. How do I remove them ? I tried pulling them but am affraid to damage to the distributor , do they screw in? If they do, what direction do I turn them to loosen them ?

Willie, the wires screw into the distributor cap. Lefty loosie, righty tighty.
