After I tried the suggestion on starting I believe now I have a bad plug wire, any way I cannot see how the armature plate can be removed for wire replacement,or do I not need to remove it?

Sorry: Still working on the 1962 QD 23 I did try different wires, but no change in running, I was wondering how to remove armature plate so as to run wires, but bigger issue now is over all running, I have new coils and new points set to .20 the motor was running fine changed nothing next time I tried to start,it hardly would start and run like crap. I'll go out and do a little more head scratching and get back to the forum in a bit.

There are 2 screws that go through the laminations one on each coil.--Also 2 screws that go through the armature plate.---They screw into that retainer plate under the armature.---It is best to install the wires into the coils before putting the coils in position.---The coils must be properly positioned to get the correct air gap and maximum spark.

Thanks: what is the best way to gap coils on this, maybe this is why it starts hard?

If you look at the top secret files there are some photos of what your looking for. The heels of the coils must be flush with the mounting bosses.

Could be the wires. A change in humidity might make them arc one day and not the next.
