I decided to change out the wires on my 74 150 and went to Napa to look for some aftermarket wires. They sell a kit through Sierra with 25 ft of wire and required fittings ($29.99). My question is does anyone have any experience with using a kit line this and will I need anything beyond a wire stripper/crimper to get it done? Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: spark plug wires

PS. I'm changing the wires because a couple had an arc when ran at night (just noticed)..

Why dont you just order OEM, which are ready to go for 19.00? Dont like the stuff you have to cut, never as good. Here is your part # 84-63212A2

I could be mistaken, but I think the OEM wires are $18 EACH! There was a thread here about that some time back. I could be wrong about that, but I'd take the time and build 'em myself to save $80 or $90.

When I looked it up, it said kit. I guess, i would build them too if that is the case.

Yeah, they are $18.00 apiece from Mercury--but that's cheap compared to a $100.00 distributor cap or $350.00 rotor assembly I guess. I would have much preferred to get the OEMs but could not stomach putting out that much. I'll just take my time and let you know how it goes. With 25 ft. I may have enough for close to two sets if something goes wrong.. Thanks.

I've got a set of Accel #3009 (yellow) wires on my 200hp 'rude. NAPA either has 'um or can get 'um. They're stranded wire core, not resistor, high temp, and the sparkplug end is molded. Look good, work great and ya don' have to hock the farm to buy 'um. Oh, and they come in different colors.

c/6
Hooty

Hooty,
Thanks for the info on the wires from NAPA. I ordered the other kit (if it's not the same) from them but will ask about the Accel. This is a case in point where I would have been wiser to consult the board before buying/ordering something. Lesson learned. Thanks.
