I am a bit puzzled on spark plugs on my 61 "fisherman" 5.5 Evinrude.... the original parts book calls for a J4J Champion, which is horribly obsolete....one site suggested a J4C, I boats shows a J8C???? Champion...and Champions web site is of littel help. What do you guys run in your 5.5???

J4C or J6C will work, the J6C from what I have read is the better choice of the 2

I've never understood Japanese plugs in an American motor, read they run best on champions, however my 9.9 has ngk's and it runs perfectly.

The correct plug when that engine was new was the Champion J4J. The current version of that same plug is the J4C.

Use J4C, gapped at .030" for general use. For extended trolling or low speed operation the J6C is less likely to foul.
