My owners manual says to use Champion QL82C plugs in this motor, is this the correct plug for the newer fuels out there? I tried NGK plugs but now the motor idles rough and seems to be skipping slighty and down on power. I was getting about 5000 RPM WOT and now it is like 4200. If it matters, the Oil Injection is disconnected so it is premix, this was done when the motor was brand new at the dealer. Dont know if this affects the choice of plug or not.

I'd try the Champion plugs if it were me. Won't take long to find out.

c/6

Hooty

I have a '97 'rude 115 and it came with Champion QL78YC plugs. I've always replaced with the same and they seem to work well. Gap is 0.030".

Check the tag on the side of your motor where it gives the model and serial numbers. I think it states the recommended plug type and gap there.

There were two different styles of 115 motors. If the trim button is on the stb. side of the motor pan, use the QL82C plugs. If it's on the port side, use QL78YC.

Seahorse - Thanks, that's interesting (yes, my switch is on port side). Was one type newer than the other, or did they make both at once ? Were there any other differences ?
