Re: spark plugs

Sounds like too much fuel...or weak spark caused by a failing stator.

When you start it after its been run for a while...do you have to lift the fast idle lever..or do you have to choke it?

TMD

Re: spark plugs

The stator was replaced a few years ago. I have to lift the throttle when running. How do you check if you have enough spark?

Ron,

looks like it is running too rich - did you ever have the carb clean and or adjust ? May be the time now !!!
Poor spark could be a problem also, but if you say that once it starts it is OK I tend to believe that is carb. related.

Smoky ;)

I never had carbs adjusted or taken off and cleaned. When out on water and motor is turned off it needs the throttle to be engaged to start again. When it runs wide open its OK.

IMHO, smokeyforce hit the nail on the head. Diassembling ,cleaning and reassembling carbs is not hard to do. NAPA has the kits with good instructions. You might also rebuild the fuel pump-it's even easier.
(I don't work for NAPA-just like their kits)
