Do I need the key 'ON' to get spark at the plugs if I were to try to start by jumpering the starter solenoid? Or in otherwords what I am getting at, I checked my compression by pulling all plugs and didnt jumper the wires to ground and just ran the starter by jumping the starter solenoid. I didn't have the key 'ON' so I am thinking there was no spark there to possibly harm the coil packs, am I correct in my thoughts?
Thanks,
Brett

Re: Spark question when checking compression

Yes you are correct.

With the key in the off position, the ignition is grounded and it will not spark.

Another way to do it is to flip the safety lanyard if you have one. This will ground the ignition, but allow you to use the key to crank the motor.
