Use a remote stater on the starter solenoid, what engine are we working on, model number?

I pulled all my plugs out and jumped the sylinoid with the screw driver.....didn't have to worry about the motor starting because all plugs were out of the cylinders still in the wires turned key to on position got the screwdriver out and watched..

Be careful with that method if fuel is being pumped out of your open cylinders. You want to keep gasoline and electricity separated outside the combustion chamber or "fire in your" face can occur.

Screw old plugs in to prevent this.

I have an alcohol injected pulling tractor and do the same test, your motor will not produce enough vapor or gas to cause this, gas isn't explosive its the vapor if u really want to be safe just pull all plug wires but the one your testing that's probably a lot safer method for someone new to trying this

Fact:Gasoline readily evaporates into vapor in open air. Don't be crazy. Plug those holes!

Remote starter switch removes all risk, since ignition is off.

Edit. Sorry, I read the post wrong. If you want to do a spark test do it with the plugs in. If you have no spark then the mtr will never start. You have to have the key on to check the spark but with the plugs in you should have no fuel vapors. You can disconnect all the plug wires so there is no start.
