As the Titanic slithers into the deep, we rearrange the deck chairs.

Immigrants made this country strong, great and wonderful. I have no issues with immigrants as long as we know who and where they are. I can't wait for them to become citizens. When they do, they share all the freedoms of us born here.

If they do not want to become citizens-fine, we send them home when the visas expire-period.

I agree, but they do not want to go home, so they will not... hence the "illegal" in front of imigrant.
We have jillions of them here, and almost to a man, they werk their 5'4" arses off! But that is not the issue, and never has been.
Washington does nothing because the socialists want the votes, while the capitalists want the cheap labor.
The entire country suffers the result.

That's pretty short sighted DJ. You know they would jump at the chance for citizenship, all umpty millions of them. They would overwhelm us. Those that have not gone thru the process have continued to show their allegience to the country that does not give a hoot about them, nor makes any effort to stop their cronyism so the local economies can flourish. They have as much stated that they consider parts of this country the rightful property of Mexico.

Boom,

I live in AZ, I'M ON A BORDER STATE. I know more about this issue than most.

"short sighted"? How?

Jumping at the chance of citizenship is a crock. Most don't want it. How do I know-I TALK TO THEM. They want to go back and forth-work here- and go go home for a rest. That is their culture. So be it. Again, as long as we know who and where they are.

Here's some holes holes in the popular thinking.

1. Big biz would not consider hiring an illegal, except the State of AZ. They just had to let one go out of pure embarrassment.

2. Small biz hires them. Granted, Americans won't work for the wages. But, that's where the REAL issue is.

We have too many laws regarding small biz. It's tough. As a small biz owner, I hire NOBODY, because I do not want the crap that goes with it.

You, and most, have NO idea what is coming across the border. It's NOT just immigrant workers. There are some really BAD folks coming across too. But, WE DON'T CARE!

We might ,one very bad day.

Re: Speak IT!!!

Dj's right in re: to the fact that immigrants made this country great. However, having said that, DJ, we are now doing something in this country we have never done before.

1. We're ignoring the law. Illegal immigration is...for lack of a better word.,,,uh...illegal. I doubt anyone has a problem with an immigrant with a work ethic, as long as that person is here on a legal visa. Chase the American dream all day, but register to do so.

2. We're catering to them in all facets of society in a manner that doesn't make them intigrate. By saying that I know I open myself to ridicule, but hear me out. In the past, Europeans or other immigrants arrived, and were told, this is America. Learn the language or flounder. Do it our way or flounder. I lived in Europe and Asia and the Middel east. They didn't cater to English speakers. You learned thier ways or you were in the dark. In the past immigrants may well have kept their languages and culture in their house. and celebrated their heritage, but outside the house, they assimilated into American culture or they were relegated to staying in Little China, or Littel Italy or Germantown, etc.

Thanks to big business and the media, we are enabling the most recent crop of immigrants, illegal OR legeal, to keep speaking Spanish and NOT assimilate to some degree into our culture. Then when they don't we are accused of being insensitive to thier needs.

ABC subtitles their prime time programs to Spanish.Banks and businesses all have phone and computer sysems in both languages. By enabling the Hispanic population to keep thier unique identity without having to learn English or American Culture, we're eroding ours. They could learn English and use it without giving up their cultural identity. And if their Identity is THAT important to them they should stay at home.

Nope. thanks to bug bidness and the almighty dollar, we will now kiss their keester while they ignore our cultural norms and slowly, methodically, destory our culture.

Happy tails Hombre.

Re: Speak IT!!!

DJ is spot on, as far as the Mexican, central, and south Americans are concerned.... small biz issues too..

With reguards to Cuba, the US needs to change policy... Unfortunately, the damage is already done...

Hundreds of thousands of US dollars that leave this country daily in small, legal amounts, bound for Cuba... Those $$$'s ultimately end up in the hands of Fidel & Raul Castro.... That tap needs to be turned off...PERIOD.... But nobody in Warshington seems to care that Cubans whom reside in these United States are helping fund the Cuban communist-dictatorship.. Might cost someone a vote... >gasp< :^

The "Wet foot-Dry foot" and political asylum laws also need to go the way of the dinosaur, IMO.... again.. might cost someone a vote

Gabby,

I think we are about 95% of agreement.

As an example, I CLOSED all my accounts with Bank of America once I verified that they give mortgages and credit cards to illegals.

Yep, that's an example of a "big biz" outfit just gone wrong. It is biting them-big time.

That's ONE example. The small biz examples are too numerous to name, which I won't. They undercut me, everyday, on price and have NO credibility. The American public, I've found wants "cheap". No affinity to country, or quality.

I'll have to find a way to compete and will.

My service will NOT be compromised. That, I will not let go.

Re: Speak IT!!!

DJ,

Good for you. When I was getting my undergrad in Bidness a while back I did a "survey, with no scientific approach at all, of Wally World products. 50% was still made in the USofA. (mid 90's) I randomly selected 100 store products in 10 different departments to check.

Last year while finishing my MBA I repeated my survey. Same control effort, 10 products, randomly selected, from 10 departments in Wally World. About 30% was still made in America. 20% delta in 15 years. So much for Wal-Mart, American Made. Sam is rolling , I guarantee it.

I agree with your comment. As an American, I find it appalling that the average consumer is, for lack of a better term, an uninformed imbecile. They don't care what they get, quality or service wise, they just want cheap.

I remember a professor once telling me something that I have caried with me since. In the triangle of business or acquisition ( I am a contracting and acquisition manager for Uncle Sugar) of goods and services, there exists a triangle. One leg is good, one is fast and one is cheap. You can only ever have two of those in any business transaction. You want it fast and good, it ain't cheap. You want it fast and cheap? It ain't good. You want it good and cheap? It ain't fast. Doesn't work.

Hang in there. Integrity and customer support is worth a lot more than you realize. I'll stay loyal to a business that provides me with service before, during and after the sale as long as I know I am getting a reasonable deal for the price. I'll even pay more for better service for the same product if the vendor proves their customer service is better. Not all of us are worried about the lowest bidder. Some of us still want quality and craftmanship.

Re: Speak IT!!!

Congress shouldn't HAVE to pass that law. The immigrants now flooding the country have no DESIRE to assimilate. If you pass that law, you would only have millions of immigrants ignoring that law too, like they do with all the others.

Meanwhile, the bills they ARE wasting time on would limit the amount of money given to your men and women in uniform WHILE adding pork to each of their fat little districts. How can they seriously propose to limit spendong while they're adding pork to it?

Am I the only one that noticed Otis Campbell has the keys to the liqor store? Please. If you're going to make a comment about the Republican Congress give the theiving Dems equal time.

Please notice in the media that the "new" term is migrant. Not immigrant, not undocumented. They are migrant, like a flock of birds or grazing animals. Sure they will inconvenience you for a little while, but they will move on.

Re: Speak IT!!!

Being in the Bahamas for the last three weeks and and coming here for the last 15 years reading their daily newspaper most of the Bahamas reguire that a person moving here must be able to Read and speak English. Also if you are not a Bahamian you need to have a work visa. So what is so hard for a person coming to America learning English even broken English. (whatsa matta witha you)

Also I'm not sure about Austraila, but I think you need to have a certain amount of income when seeking citizenship their. Can any of our Down Under friends help us out with the requirements?

Seems to me the philosphy of limited government would say let the business decide what the job qualifications are. I don't know about Florida, but in Georgia I don't have a right (and rightly so) to a job. In order to obtain and maintain employment, I must meet their qualifications. They don't need a reason to let me go either.

Gabby - I have posted the same arguments in a lot of previous threads & got bashed as anti-capitalist (if big business wants the illegals' money & will pander to them to get it, then so be it & shut up). Now that the snowball is halfway down the hill & rolling fast, I don't know if we'll ever find a way to stop it.
