So i wanted to add 1 or 2 subs to my setup, so i be installing still the 4 4 JL M770, and 1/2 JL M10IB5 subs... So im still not sure if its worth it to go with 2 subs instead of 1, since ill be listening to it about 20ft away from my boat, im leaning more into 2... Now where do i put them?

Blue = Speakers, Red= Sub

Now i coulddo something like this:

Blue = Speakers, Red= Sub

And put the other 2 speakers on my cockpit

On the second pick i would loose my little storage compartment, but ill probably gain more direct sound

note: i barely listen to music while on the boat.. Usually listen to it outside the boat

Re: Speaker Location?

sub bass is a non-dirrectional sound, out back is not great idea. not bad for speakers though...give you mids n highs ( more dependant on dirrection of sound) while "in the water"

Thank you... Maybe ill do that. put a sub and speaker on each side of my cockpit, and 2 speakers on the back. Not sure if its worth loosing my anchor storage box :(

On a side note... Installing my amp close(1 feet from battery 1.5-2ft from engine) to my batteries and to my engine has not secondary effects right? i wont get distortion or anything like that, because of that?

closer you can get to your power supply (battery) and the shorter your power ground cables are, the better. this also alows you to buy the best wire you can get your hands on. go for 4guage wire and dont forget the fuze holder at the battery.

Gotcha, yes i was planning to put it very close to the battery, but the battery is close to the engine, didnt know if that would be a problem. But guess not.
Besides the fuze (i got a 60A one) should i install a physical switch for it? or the one from the stereo is good enough?

Re: Speaker Location?

at this point heat and alternater noise are your only enemies. both which could be a problem no matter where you mount the amp. my concrns whem i do a marine audio installation, is ease of running wires, and keeping it in a dry location, and keeping easy access to all the controls on the amp. an amp has to get extremely hot b4 it starts distorting. however...turning the cd player too high will send a distorted signal to the amp, then the amp sends the same distorted sound to the speakers. most decks distort at about three quarters of their volume. for example: and alpine deck goes to "35" max volume, i set them between "22" to "24" on the volume scale, then set the amp gain controls frm that point, turn the amp up until you hear distortion...back it off a tad n you should be fine. there is an amp control wire on the deck (amp remote wire) that should be good enough.
