im wondering what route i should take for placing a 6 1/2 inch speaker into a side panel, or if i should cut a nice piece of plywood and mount it below the side panel.

the side panel has about a 1 inch piece of foam, then is covered by vinyl(one piece where i would cut, not stiched)

so how hard would it be to put the speaker in that side panel? would i have to take off the vinyl, then cut then place it back over and cut with a knife? or can i leave it on, cut from behind then when im through the plywood backing, just take the knife and cut the vinyl?

thanks for any help.

Re: speaker placement

You can leave the vinyl on. I would measure 3 times, mark everything, cut the vinyl and foam with a razor and remove it, cut the wood, mount the speaker. Word of advise leave some extra vinyl on so youi can wrap it around the inside of the hole you cut, this will provide a cleaner install. Remember you can always cut more away if needed.
