I'm thinking of upgrading to a newer Center Console (CC). I currently have a
'90 Lowe aluminum 19' cc with a 24" freeboard which is great. I've looked at a couple newer fiberglass cc but their freeboard is much shorter...about 16"-19" high. Are the '00 and newer cc built with lower freeboard? Or are there different types of cc that determines the height? I've read ads, "cc bay boat" or "cc offshore", would that be an high/low freeboard identifier?

different type boats, for different uses. a center console is just that, the console is in the center. the center console for ocean fishing is going to have more freeboard, and a center console for bass fishing.

Thanks for your reply. I understand that a cc is a cc. I guess you answered my question which is an ocean going will have more freeboard than a bass boat being that both are center console.

Now I can center my search for an offshore/ocean going console boat (pun intended :p).

Freeboard on CC boats also varies significantly from brand to brand. Keep looking and you should run into some deep ones.

Watch your cockpit depth as well. Some boats have a lot of free board but the deep of the cockpit is significantly shallower.

A good friend of mine has a boat that has a lot of freeboard but the cockpit is very shallow in comparison. For some reason it completely throws off my sense of balance and I?ve fallen on that boat more than once balance.
