Re: speed ideas?

Notice all the safety gear in the picture of the guy with twin 55's? Yep, no PFD, no lanyard, just a pair of cheap sun glasses to help cut the glare.

" We don't need no stinking PFD!" 8)

Re: speed ideas?

well i took it out and you guys were right.. it was scary from the time i backed it off the trailer till i put it back on.. i was running in slight chop and never had the balls to take it over half throttle.. it may be alittle better with another person in the front.. im gonna start looking for a little bigger boat to put this motor on of maybe a smaller motor.. maybe a 20hp.. as soon as i get the video uploaded ill post it..

Aw c'mon. You didn't twist it up even for a short run? Now you have nothing to tell the grandchildren. But at least you survived to not tell them what didn't happen. ;)

I think you need to trim the motor down. lol

Good luck trying to find someone to sit in the front!

At least now you know. We all have to do stupid things occassionally. I'd look for a 14-16' boat for that motor and staying close to the max rating for the boat.

Thanks for posting the video.

Re: speed ideas?

Even at idle speed, it looked like it was gonna swamp you when in reverse.

Water looked pretty smooth, would have been a bit scarier in 1' waves.

Glad you made it home.

Hey Nissdet! I see you have PA numbers. Where in PA are you? If close enough, I'll come out there and ride with you. And I'll get that bad boy wide open too! LOL

Re: speed ideas?

LOL... now c'mon. You aren't gonna win a Darwin award if you only go to 1/2 throttle. I went faster than that when I put the 15 hp on my little tinnie. Well, it looked like if you tried a little harder, you'd been able to swamp it, even at 1/2 throttle...

Seriously, it was good that you didn't push it too far. I liked how the camera man couldn't help laughin'... That's usually the mark of a stupid human trick in progress.

That motor would probably push a 16 or 18' aluminum utility boat very nicely... or a 14' fiberglass runabout.

Hey moderator! a while back I accidentally posted a reply to NISSDET twice. Now it seems to be deleted. Did I violate a board rule? Like to know so I don't repeat. thanks for info.

Re: speed ideas?

I was just waiting for that boat to flip up...too funny. Maybe try a tiller handle extension and sit in the front of the boat...Your turning capability will be limited though.

This would be a nice motor on a Zodiac...My buddy has one with a 30hp and it is a lot of fun and surprisingly stable.
