Hi all..quick question for you..
I have a 14' lund s-14 aluminum with a 1971 18 horse rude on it. My brothers 16 footer with a newer 25 horse would only push him around at about 15mph, but that seems pretty slow to me. I believe i have it set up properly with a 3 blade prop, correct motor angle etc.. Any idea what type pf speed i should expect from it with just me and about 200 pounds of trolling motor batts and rods? (maybe a small cooler).. Thanks in advance.. Oh.. and i wanted to plug the minn kota guys also. I needed a manual for a pretty old trolling motor, and they responded within 12 hours, and attached everything i needed. Thats why these guys are among the best. i wish the local marina was that good..

Re: speed question..

The 25 is not running on both cylinders or has a serious performance issue. Or else the 16 foot boat weighs a ton.

Re: speed question..

I had a 12' Lowe Lake John that I could not only plane out, but run right smartly with me and all my gear, with an OEM 7.5 Merc, with the factory 2 blade alum prop.

Something is frightfully wrong with both rigs. I had a 18 rude on a very heavy wooden 13ft boat when I was a kid and it went fast enough to ski behind. Had a 22hp (McCulloch) on a moderately heavy 13ft fiberglas semivee and could put 3 people in it and all the gear and still plane out nicely. I think it would do about 22-25 with just me and all my gear.

Re: speed question..

I have an early '90s 14' Lund (basic boat,3 bench seats)that has an 8hp Evinrude on it. With 2 people it planes easily and will plane with 3 but it takes quite a bit longer.

I don't know what the top speed is,but I'd say its close to 20mph.

If your 18 is running well I'd bet you'll see mid 20s.

Re: speed question..

actually it's my brother that weighs a ton;) he's a 300 pounder all day. He seems to think ill get around 15 mph out of it, but i am in agreement with you guys.. I should see at least 20 plus in it. I think the boat is somewhere around 275 dry, plus me 175..troller and batts etc.. Im thinking total weight to be around 600 lbs. The ice is finally out up here so if it's not pouring this weekend, i will gps the results. Thanks as always..oh.. Think i may have miss worded my post a little. Im wondering top speed on my lund as compared to his larger lund. 14 footer w/18 horse should run me around pretty good i think..

Re: speed question..

You should do fine and if you were running an identical 16 foot with that 18 I think you would be as fast or maybe a little faster with a load. The bigger boat supports the weight better.
