Hey Guys:

I was trying to stop a timing cover seal leak by replacing the seal. I was not successful, and was informed I may need a speedi-sleeve. So I went and got one and installed as instructed to and this is how it ended. I'm not sure if its on far enough and if not what now?

I measured it, carpenter style, and it seems that the outer edge of the seal will be very close the edge of the sleeve. Is this serious?

Thanks......

Looks like it stops in front of the seal. The seal should ride on the speedy sleeve. So if it is not under the seal it will do nothing. Pull the timing cover and push it in at least past the lip of the seal. I like to center them on the wear mark on the shaft.

From what I can tell, there are two edges on the seal. The inside edge will be on the sleeve (red), and the out side edge will be very close to the front edge of the sleeve (green).

There was a wear mark and it is under the sleeve (red)

I guess what I would like to know is do I have to get that sleeve off and try again or can I some how push it on a little farther or try it the way it is and see if it leaks.

OK. Thanks for the visual. I would try to set it back a little more. Just to give the second lip a little more to ride on. You will not get it off with out damaging it. If you have a roll pin punch and a small ball pen hammer you can gently tap the outter edge all the way around to try and get a little more.( if your driver bottomed out that is.) Otherwise roll with it.It should seal as is. Again it's my own oppinion that you should try to get a little more. But it will seal as it is.

Thanks Allbutwet, I don't have any experience with sleeves. I had it seated down as far as it would go and bottomed out on the driver. Then I ripped that flange off and it seemed to be a little short.
I'll try to push it down a little more.....

Thanks.......
