Re: Speedo not working
Since my last post on this, I looked through my shop manual on this.
OEM shop manual #14 April 2001 edition for Alpha One Gen II shows two versions of this speedometer connector, one for 1997-1/2 and earlier and one for 1998 and later. The earlier version uses a twist and turn and pull operation for separation, the later version uses a push in on a release button followed by a pull to separate.
My drive is an Alpha One Gen II, original since 1991, and my speedometer connector is the earlier version. The invoice for my part lists a part number of 22815956A1 and it was called a "Coupling Kit."
I don't know if there is any other difference in the two versions such as internal orifice difference, size on threaded end/thread pitch that goes into drive etc. I would doubt any difference in the versions other than coupling mechanism but don't know for sure.
If a Merc Dealer is near enough, you could bring in the part together with the serial # of your drive and get a quick match.
