speedo on bravo 3

i just bought a 30 foot mariah with a bravo 3. the problem is the speedo dosn't work.i've been told the pickup is in the gearcase. is this true? does it et clogged like a regular peedo tube? is there any way to check it's operation? thanks in advance....james

tilt the drive up. look for the speedo pickup tubing at the top of the lower just aft of the fwd anode plate. sometimes they clog between the pitot hole on the leading edge of the case and some times the old memory challenged tech just forgets to reinsert the pick up on the case. been guilty .

rodbolt, mine pickup tube falls off all the time! So don't worry about forgeting to put it on! And mine also clogs in the little hole on the leading edge of the lower unit. That's fixable in the water, the tube is tough to reach and not get your hair wet!
