SpeedO Trouble

I have a 5.7 260hp Alfa 1 in a 1994 Wellcraft Excel that the speedo does not work...I know on some boats there is a tube that goes down to a pickup on the outside of the boat..This does not have one or looks to ever had one...This is my first Inboard motor...If anybody has any info...Thnaks...Mike

Many outdrives have the speedo pickup built into the outdrive. Very common for the pickup to get plugged with weeds or something out of water. Check for a small hole on front of outdrive near propeller shaft, Probably a little higher up. Clean out hole with a wire. Squirt a stream of water on it and see if speedo moves at all. Could also follow hose from speedometer to outdrive, pull hose off where it goes to drive and back flush with water.

Pull the tube off the speedo,+ Blow.....<br />If that doesn't work, follow it back,+ see where the problem is....

If you are running the river, these things get all kinds of little bits of sticks, dirt, and misc. crap in them. I have to flush mine out a couple times a month.
