Speedometer not working

I just bought a 1993 Trophy 2352 Hardtop. It is in great shape, except the speedometer does not work. Any suggestions where to begin troubleshooting?

1st place I would look, is to see that the black speedo tube is connected to the platic fitting on the outdrive. It is near that big anode on the front where the the top and bottom meet. You will need to tilt the drive up to see.

pull the tube off the back of the speedo and attach a short peice of tubing. Put a little air pressure into the speedo and see if the needle deflects. If not, it may be full of salt water.

I had the same problem with my speedo. The rubber tube was clogged with debris. Blow out the tube (AFTER you take it off the back of the speedo). Speedo works like a charm now!

Also check the speedo hole in the front of the outdrive. It's looks like a notched "V" in front of the water intake holes. Mine gets clogged all the time.
