I have a 1984 21' Bayliner Capri. The speedometer doesn't work. The only thing attaching the instrument to the motor is a vacuum hose. I can see that the hose is disconnected but I can't find where it connects to the motor. Can anyone help me?

Technically it is a Water/Air PRESSURE hose.

What Make/Size of motor is it supposed to be attached to?
A disconnected speedo hose will flood the boat if it is not plugged.

It doesn't connect to the engine, it connects to a pitot tube mounted on the transom.

Something like this.

IT is definitley not leaking the speedometer has not been working for a while. I just found the hose and retraced it back to the speedometer. I thought perhaps it attached to the carb or intake manifold and worked off suction but can find anything there

A pitot you say? Thanks Don S. I hadn't thought of that. The boat has a wheel thing on the transome already but it is attatched with an electrical wire. It to is not connected anylonger because it went to an old fishfinder. Perhaps a previous owner changed out the pitot that came with the boat. is it possible to get a generic pitot for old boats?

What kind of engine do you have? Some hoses attach to the lower unit on I/O's.

Was just about to say this - off the top of my head, Alpha drives have a built in pitot. Look for a little notch in the leading edge of the drive.

Don S and DBreskin thank you very much for the information. I just ordered the Pitot from the iboats link. Less then $20 including shipping - Its worth a try at that price for sure.
