Speedometer pitot tube trashed, do I need it ?

1994 40 HP, I reinstalled my LU after doing the impeller & noticed my speedometer pitot tube was cut & flattened in a few places so I yanked it as I dont use a speedometer. In hindsight I'm wondering should I've removed plastic fitting & replaced it with a plug or capped it or better yet bouget some new tubing ?<br />Do I need to drop the LU again & do this ? Will water make it's way in there & screw anything up?<br /> <br />Thanks for any help on this <br />Alan

If you don't plug the intake hole, water will just squirt out where ever the end of the tube is & points to.
