Speedometer sticking

I have a 1989 bayliner and just had the engine rebuilt. The speedometer hose was disconnected on the outside of the boat for who knows how long. I got everything reconnected and the speedometer only works once I'm going 25-30. Any thoughts on why? Or a fix?

The pitot tube and/or the hose are clogged. Replace both and it'll work fine. Easy job.

If the pitot is on the engine, blow and/or clean it out.

I have 2 of the old fashioned setups - one 34 years old and the other 65 years old and with minimal maintenance both work 100%.

All above steps 100 percent valid.I through out my lie-o-meter and use the fishfinder gps .Even the cheapest fishfinder today with maybe one or 2 exceptions have speed built in.In the speedos place i put a beauty airglide compass though even thats outdated looks very cool and is a good backup.

GPS speed is great if you are in stagnant water. But if you are in a river current and need to know the boat speed in water a GPS will lie to you (i.e. upstream vs. downstream speed will be different). My 2 pitot tube speedometers agree with my GPS to +- 1.0 MPH when the conditions are the same.
