My speedometer slowly failed on my Lowe 1600V, 1989 Evinrude 50, yesterday I got no response from it at all. Where do I start to look for the problem?

Thanks, God bless, Mike.

Re: Speedometer

Re: Speedometer

If the pitot and/or hose aren't plugged up, then the speedometer is probably toast. If you don't already have one, a tachometer is a nice thing to fill the hole with after you toss the speedometer.

Re: Speedometer

As usual, so many helpful people! I will check both ends of the cable unit. I do have a tach, and my Garmin unit measures speed so the speedo is kind of redundant, I just like to keep things on the boat in working order as they were when I bought it. Thank you all very much!
Mike.

Ayuh,.....

There's No cable,.....
It's a piece of Tubing,..... The gauge measures Pressure.....Which equates to Speed......

Is the pitot tube white? Also, which GPS would be recommended? I've heard there is a Marine GPS, but it does not operate like the regular ones, while out on the lake. It just gives reference points. I have not used any type GPS, up to this point, just curious. Thanks, in advance, and thanks to iboats for such a great forum! CharlieTx
