Re: spider poop remover??

Hi Ken, I get the same problem year after year at the dock. I use a soft scrubber and Dawn dish soap. Then if that doesn't work, I'll get a paper towell and fold it till it is about 4 layers thick. Wet it down with CLR and lay it on the spot. Let it be for about 15 minuets and rinse with fresh water. Good Luck........SS

Try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It took all the dirty spots off my boat with little effort.

Magic Erasers will not remove it and Simple Green may stain your gel coat. You need something with bleach in it. Try Clorox Clean-Up or mix 20% bleach in water. Spray it on and let it sit for a minute and the stains come right off. This will remove wax, however.

I've always used Soft Scrub with bleach to get stains and spots off of fiberglass. My last boat had an all white deck that would stain easily, Soft Scrub made it look new every time.

That's because of the bleach! But, there (obviously) is an abrasive in soft scrub and it will scratch the gel coat. I leave soft scrub for the textured floors, where shine isn't an issue. The spray bleach mixture will do the same thing without reducing the shine of the gelcoat.

I haven't tried it yet but several guys in our area swear by something called spider wax. It's preventative rather than clean up.....wax the boat then it keeps the spiders away.....at least that's what it's supposed to do. Everyone I know that's tried it says it works.

Try a clay bar. I had lots of spray paint overspray on my car for 5 years and nothing ever got it off. Somebody suggested a clay bar and it worked very easily and effectively. Impressive little bar! Watch out, if you drop it on the ground don't use it anymore, throw it out.

Clay bars work great for overspray and small particles embedded in the paint, but spider poop soaks into the gelcoat, which is why he will need a chemical agent to draw it back out. A clay bar will not do a thing for him.
