1 Suggest a swap to your dad. :)
2 If no, change the propeller to a lower pitch

Edit:
What is the diameter and pitch on the 9.9 of your dad's?
On a 10ft Zodiac you should get up on plane easily. Can you check your prop for diameter and pitch too?
We also need the gear ratio for the comparision. For the Mercury that is easy to find, but for the Spirit?

Re: Spirit 9.9

That's a good question. Unfortunately he lives about 350 miles from me,but I will get that info.next month when I am down there.
The diameter on my prop is 8".And stamped on the prop are the following numbers .285 x 205.I assume this is metric. Not sure what this translates to in standard measurements.
I also did some testing on the weekend and verified both plugs were firing and checked the fuel filter. This motor has been sitting for quite a few years not used and I think the carb. needs a rebuild or at least the jets need replacing.
I noticed from half throttle to WOT there is no difference in RPM.At WOT when I pullled the choke out the motor did not react at all.It should begin to stall, correct?

This motor is going to the junk yard!I just had it into the repair shop and it seems the previous owner had run straight gas through it and one of the cyclinders has gone south. It's not worth the money to repair even if you can find parts.
Guess it's time for a new Honda! The wife even agrees!!
