Splicing Hummingbird 200DX tramsom mount transducer cable

My plastic mount transducer is busted off the bracket and is flopping around. Can a new same type of transducer be spliced into old cable and work correctly? I would like to avoid running a new cable through the length of the boat.

I have not done this personally, but I have read several threads where people have spliced their cable with good results. Solder and use shrink tube for a good connection....

Steve, my tranducer mount broke also when I was unloading at a shallow ramp. I used some gorilla glue to cement it to the transom and pieces of the original mount. It it still working fine and I figure if it ever dies it will be pretty simple to replace it then. Good luck.8)

Same thing happened to me. I glued the pieces back together (vs gluing it to the transom). I tried epoxy...broke again. Then I tried a name brand superglue gel (3m or locktite, don't remember which). Broke again. Finally, marine-tex...been working fine for several trips now. Looks kind of like Shamu...I highly recommend gluing yours back together vs. replacing/cutting/splicing. If you do splice it...solder + shrinkwrap the inner cable, wrap it in aluminum foil and cover it with a bigger shrinkwrap.

Its no problem running the new cable. Tie a string on the old one. Pull it out and the string goes in. Tie the new cable to the string and then pull the string out. Use tape to tape the cord to the new cable. DO NOT pull on the connector. Splicing the cable requires some electrical knowledge since this may be a shielded cable. Not shielded properly causes interference and you will now have two malfunctioning transducers.
