Does the motor get water in the oil??? if not pull enginge and have welded if you are not going to sell the boat. If you sell it fix it right or notify buyer. It might dribble from weld but it will rust closed fast or cover with epoxy. just a easy way out.

Go to a junk yard and get your self a new one. You are already this far. Go all the way. I would only weld if I didnt have to pull the motor.

Re: Split block mercruser 140

Is the 3liter block the same as any other GM product. The junk yards where I live only deal with autos. I can't seem to source one in my neck of the woods, can any one point me in the right direction?

I understand that a block is a block but does any body know if GM put this particular block in any passanger cars, trucks or any thing else. 1981 mercruser with a 181ci made in Mexico block #277087 I think it is a 3 liter.

Re: Split block mercruser 140

i don't know if this helps, but, i've got two of these in my garage that i don't need or want..... one dressed with alpha asessories, the other with Mod. 1 parts....
the aplha dressed motor is a runner, with 135/145lbs compression....
the Mod.1 dressed motor has about an hour run time on it....BUT, a defective piston broke,+ took out a bore... now needs a sleeve to be a running motor... i'd put 4 new pistons in because the other three are the same part# as the broken one....

Bondo

Re: Split block mercruser 140

If Mr. f_inscreenname knows of a junkyard (auto) that has these I sure would like to know!!

The Mercrusier 181 was Mercrusier only!

Now he is correct in saying A block is a Block when it comes to the 152 cid.

It went into the 110/120 Mercrusier.

Look for a 1965 Chevy II Nova and its the same.

The Merc 470/165(four cylinder), 485, 488, were Merc only. It was their attempt at making their own engines...
