My 1991 Doral Prestancia 255 has a "spongy deck hatch" over the engine compartment. When walking on it, it flexes approx. 2-3 inches. I'm looking for a way to reinforce the hatch, either through the addition of more fiberglass or a reinforcing bar or possibly a structure placed under the hatch to keep it rigid.
Any suggestinon will be appreciated.......

Re: Spongy Deck Hatch

What's the dimensions of the hatch? Sounds like the current one has interior rot in the wood core.

Re: Spongy Deck Hatch

A 24" span of glassed 3/4" plywood should not have that much flex. Again I highly suspect the plywood core has rotted and the entire hatch will need to be replaced. Not that hard of a job. Post some pics and we can help. I assume it is attached by one long stainless piano type hinge????
