Figured out I have a bad stator in 95 Sport Jet 90, so I am considering buying this complete kit from Crowley Marine

http://www.crowleymarine.com/specials/Mercury_Ignition.cfm

I have figured out that the 398-832075A21 stator sold in this kit is replaced by 174-2075K2 from CDI.

http://www.cdielectronics.com/Portals/0/Catalog/Mercury Stators.pdf

According to the PB 96-1 (dated 3-21-97) the 95 Sport Jet 90 SN OE100528 is suppose to take 398-832075A5. So since they both are replaced by CDI's 174-2075K2, then the A21 should work where an A5 works correct?

Here is the PB

Can anyone confirm my logic here?

Thanks
Rob

Thats a good deal from crowleys. Plus it will update you to the cdm ignition system. You should have the 332-7778 switchbox on that engine, which you would only need the 174-8778 stator and dump the adapter module.

Re: Sport Jet 90 Red Stator questions

Update-

Bought the kit and put it in yesturday. Was quite easy to do and now I just have to get it running. It wont start, but I havent fully started troubleshooting that yet, I am going to do that today, but ill wait till its not quite so hot out there before I head outside.

One nagging thought I have is this kit which is technically for the 1996 Sport Jet 95, might need the 96 flywheel. However, as I pointed out, the replacement stator from CDI specs to replace both the 95 and 96 SJ ones, so I might be worrying over nothing.
