Not sure who originally posted this:<br /><br />Mercury knew there was a problem with the electrical system on the 1993 and 1994 90HP Sportjets. They made a CDM conversion kit that updated the electrics for those models in 1996.<br /><br />The Mercury part number is 835084A1 CDM CONV KIT-90J -List price $725.55 but can be found for $616.19 at Stemtostern.com or Mercruiserparts.com, or actually any shop that can order Merc parts. It appears that this the best kept secret for this problem. I had to research a lot to figure out that was the part number I needed. I didn't want to "piecemeal" some retrofit together.<br /><br />The kit updates and replaces the entire electrical system and eliminates the problematic switchbox!! The kit includes a new flywheel, red stator and trigger, voltage regulator, rev limiter, 3 coils and wires, wiring harness and more! You remove the old and the new bolts right on. The hardest part was pulling the flywheel! The new coils and voltage reg. eliminates the switchbox all together!!! It also boosts the output amperage so your battery charges better!
