sportsman trailer

i recently was given an old boat, motor and trailer. I was wonering if anyone had ever seen this in a trailer and if so what is it supposed to do?? i found this pic (not my boat but about the same size) of one of these trailers and notice the handle just south of the tounge? well the center of the trailer has rollers that raise when you pull the lever and when the rollers are down then the keel site on carpeted wood. what is the purpose of having these pop up rollers?

Seen these a few times.
Best I can figure is the rollers are for launch and load, then lower them and let the bunks support the hull.

Ranger was putting a winch operated device similar to this on their trailers a couple years ago.
