Hello. My 84 Cimmarron bass boat has developed spots in the gelcoat. I tried rubbing compound to no avail. Its kept on the trailer in a garage so I dont think its water soaked. Can someone shed some light for me. Thanks, Rudy. Here is a pic:

Are you saying this happened while in the garage?

It's a little hard to see on my screen, but sometimes this can happen when there is oil or similar stuff in the water, the areas that absorb it easily change first. It can happen from UV also, but like I said, it's not that easy to see on my screen.

Re: Spots in gelcoat. Help please

I first noticed it a few weeks ago. Its only on the port side from transom to half way to bow.(beige area) The boats kept in a garage so its not been rained on. Its kept dry. Its just minor discolored, kinda splotchy. I was hoping its not water damage. I cant find it now, but I remember seeing something about gelcoat soaking up water? But with my kids, they could have sprayed something on it. Most likely gelcoat remover.

What do you tow it with? When we shipped large fiberglass items (we made many different very large things) we needed to wrap them up very well. Sometimes diesel exhaust from the truck and road grime would stain the surface and it would look a lot like that, it can be very difficult to clean off. Buffing (not by hand) with a coarse compound normally did the trick.

I have a gas Dodge truck. I tried using rubbing compound and now discovered it has helped a little. I just need to use my buffer on it (hopefully). I'm just glad its not water damage. Thanks for all yalls help. Rudy.
